Ti Leaf Care Guide
Ti leaf (Cordyline fruticosa) is a bold, tropical greenery with large, glossy individual leaves that are as functional as they are beautiful. A favorite tool for floral designers, ti leaves are used for lining vases, covering stems, and layering as table runners. They come in a range of colors and sizes, making them one of the most versatile and creative greenery options available.
Like all of our products, ti leaf is not ready to display the moment it arrives. Give it a little time to hydrate and settle in after its journey and it will look its best.
Colors and Sizes
We carry ti leaf in several colors, including green, burgundy, and the stunning Rainbow variety with its multicolored leaves. We also carry different sizes to suit different design needs. Some colors are seasonal and may not be available year-round. Reach out to us to find out what colors and sizes are currently available.
What You'll Need
- A clean vase or shallow dish
- Fresh, cool water
- Sharp scissors or floral shears
Step-by-Step Care Instructions
- Unpack promptly. Remove your ti leaves from the packaging as soon as they arrive and let them breathe.
- Trim the stems. Cut a small amount off the base of each leaf stem at an angle to improve water uptake.
- Place in water. Keep ti leaves in clean, cool water until you are ready to use them. They are hardy and do not require floral preservative.
- Change the water every 2 to 3 days. Re-trim the stems each time to keep them fresh.
- Keep in a cool spot. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources for the longest life.
Design Uses
- Line vases: Place ti leaves inside a clear vase to cover stems and create a clean, polished, tropical look. Simply curl the leaf around the inside of the vase before adding your flowers and water.
- Cover stems: Use ti leaves to wrap around the outside of a vase or container to conceal mechanics and add a lush, finished look to any centerpiece.
- Table runners: Layer ti leaves flat and overlapping down the center of a table to create a stunning, natural tropical runner. They are large enough to make a real impact and create a lush base for flowers, candles, and other decor placed on top.
- Roll and pin for accents: Ti leaves can be rolled into elegant cone or tube shapes and secured with a pin or staple for beautiful sculptural accents in arrangements.
Florist Secret
For a stunning centerpiece base, layer ti leaves flat and slightly overlapping around the rim of a low bowl or compote, letting the tips drape over the edge. Then build your floral design on top. The leaves frame the arrangement beautifully and give it a lush, tropical, finished look that looks incredibly intentional and professional!
How Long Will They Last?
With proper care, ti leaves typically last around 7 to 10 days. They also hold up very well out of water for extended periods, making them ideal for event setups and installations.
