Viburnum Care Guide
Viburnum is a stunning and versatile greenery that adds a unique, garden-fresh charm to any arrangement. With its lush, textured foliage and graceful branches, it brings a natural, organic beauty that pairs beautifully with almost any flower. It's a favorite for wedding bouquets, centerpieces, and lush garden-style arrangements.
Like all of our products, viburnum is not ready to display the moment it arrives. Give it a little time to hydrate and settle in after its journey and it will look its best.
What You'll Need
- A clean vase or bucket
- Fresh, cool water
- Floral preservative (recommended)
- Sharp scissors or floral shears
Step-by-Step Care Instructions
- Unpack promptly. Remove your viburnum from the packaging as soon as it arrives and let it breathe.
- Trim the stems. Cut 1 to 2 inches off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. Viburnum stems can be woody, so use sharp, sturdy shears for a clean cut.
- Remove lower foliage. Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline to keep the water clean and prevent bacterial buildup.
- Fill your vase. Use clean, cool water with floral preservative to help keep the stems fresh and the foliage looking vibrant.
- Change the water every 2 days. Re-trim the stems each time to keep them drinking well.
- Keep in a cool spot. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources for the longest vase life.
Pro Tips
- Woody stems need extra care: Because viburnum stems can be woody, re-cutting them regularly is especially important. A fresh cut every time you change the water makes a noticeable difference in how well they drink.
- Great for garden-style designs: Viburnum adds a lush, natural fullness to arrangements. Use it as a base layer to build your design around for a beautiful, organic look.
- Pairs with everything: Its rich green foliage complements virtually any flower color and style, from soft romantic palettes to bold, vibrant designs.
Florist Secret
For woody viburnum stems, after trimming at an angle, use your shears to make a small vertical split up the center of the stem base, about half an inch deep. This extra surface area dramatically improves water uptake for woody stems and helps the foliage stay hydrated and looking its best much longer!
How Long Will They Last?
With proper care, viburnum typically lasts around 5 to 7 days in a vase. With extra attention to fresh water and cool temperatures, it may last even longer.
