Waxflower Care Guide
Waxflower (Chamelaucium) is a charming and delicate filler flower with tiny, star-shaped blooms and fine, needle-like foliage. Native to Australia, it has a light, sweet fragrance and a beautiful, airy texture that adds a soft, romantic touch to any arrangement. It's a favorite for wedding bouquets, boutonnieres, and any design that calls for a delicate, natural filler. It also dries beautifully, making it a wonderful choice for long-lasting arrangements.
Like all of our flowers, waxflower is not ready to display the moment it arrives. Give it a little time to hydrate and settle in after its journey and it will look its best.
A Note on Colors and Availability
Waxflower is a seasonal product and is available in a few natural colors. Not all colors are available at all times, so if you have a specific color in mind for an event or project, we recommend planning ahead and ordering early. Reach out to us to find out what colors are currently available.
What You'll Need
- A clean vase or bucket
- Fresh, cool water
- Floral preservative (recommended)
- Sharp scissors or floral shears
Step-by-Step Care Instructions
- Unpack promptly. Remove your waxflower from the packaging as soon as it arrives and let it breathe.
- Trim the stems. Cut 1 to 2 inches off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle to improve water uptake.
- Remove lower foliage. Strip any leaves or blooms that would sit below the waterline to keep the water clean.
- Fill your vase. Use clean, cool water with floral preservative to help keep the stems fresh and fuel the opening of any remaining buds.
- Change the water every 2 days. Re-trim the stems each time to keep them drinking well.
- Keep in a cool spot. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources for the longest vase life.
Pro Tips
- It dries beautifully: Waxflower is one of the best filler flowers for drying. Simply hang it upside down in a cool, dry spot or leave it in a vase without water and let it dry naturally. It holds its color and delicate texture remarkably well.
- Great for boutonnieres and corsages: Waxflower's small, delicate blooms and fine foliage make it a perfect accent for boutonnieres, corsages, and hair flowers.
- Handle gently: The tiny blooms are delicate and can drop if handled too roughly. Work with waxflower carefully to keep it looking its best.
Florist Secret
Waxflower is one of the most versatile fillers you can work with. Try using it in small clusters rather than spreading individual stems throughout an arrangement. Grouping several stems together creates a beautiful, cloud-like effect that adds real visual impact and makes the tiny blooms much more noticeable. It's a simple technique that elevates any design!
How Long Will They Last?
With proper care, waxflower typically lasts around 7 days in a vase. With extra attention to fresh water and cool temperatures, it may last even longer. And once dried, it can continue to look beautiful for months.
