The holiday season is full of beautiful moments, and your table deserves to be one of them. This DIY Christmas flower ornament centerpiece is one of our all-time favorite holiday projects because it is fast, inexpensive, and completely unique. Fresh flowers tucked inside classic ball ornaments create a look that feels elevated and intentional without requiring any floral experience. You can pull this together in under 5 minutes and scale it to any table size.
For a six-person table we used six ornaments, a bunch of white pompom mums, and a bunch of hypericum berries. We placed each ornament on a candlestick to add height and keep them stable. Double-sided tape also works great if you do not have candlesticks on hand.
What You Will Need:
- Hanging ball ornaments (one per place setting or as many as you like)
- Hypericum berries (about 2 stems per ornament)
- Mums in any color (about 3 stems per ornament)
- Candlesticks or double-sided tape to stabilize the ornaments
Step 1: Hydrate Your Flowers
Cut the ends of your stems at an angle and allow them to hydrate in fresh water for at least 1 to 2 hours before arranging. This keeps your blooms fresh and perky throughout the entire holiday dinner.
Step 2: Trim the Stems
Cut your mum and hypericum stems to about 1.5 inches below the base of the flower head. You want them short enough to tuck snugly into the ornament opening.
Step 3: Set Up Your Base
Arrange your ornaments along the center of your table. Place each one on a candlestick for height, or secure with double-sided tape on a flat surface. Mix in any other ornaments, pinecones, or candles you have around the house to fill out the display.
Step 4: Add the Flowers
Now for the fun part. Tuck three mum stems and two hypericum stems into each ornament opening. The flowers will hold each other in place. Use larger ornaments if you want a fuller look, and add more stems accordingly. The result is a centerpiece that looks like it came straight from a professional floral designer.
This centerpiece works beautifully for Christmas dinners, holiday parties, and New Year's Eve celebrations. Try it with red roses and baby's breath for a classic holiday feel, or go glam with metallic painted flowers for a more festive, modern look.
