This simple DIY project is a wonderful way to honor every last bit of beauty from your farm-fresh flowers while filling your home with a warm, natural fragrance you can customize entirely to your taste.
Roses, lavender, and dried botanicals work especially beautifully for potpourri, but really any flower petals will do. This is also a lovely way to use rose petals that are past their prime in a vase but still have plenty of fragrance left to give.
What You Will Need:
- Your old flower heads and petals (roses, lavender, dried botanicals, or any blooms you have on hand)
- Fragrance fillers such as orange or lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, or dried herbs
- Essential oil of your choice (10 to 15 drops per tablespoon; lavender, rose, or citrus all work beautifully)
- Parchment paper and a baking sheet
How to Make It:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.
Step 2: Lay all your flower petals, heads, and fragrance fillers out on parchment paper over a baking sheet. Lightly spray or drizzle your essential oil mix over everything.
Step 3: Bake for about 2 hours, or until everything is dried but not burnt. Keep an eye on thinner petals as they may dry faster. Once cooled, transfer to a decorative bowl or jar. You can continue to re-apply essential oil over time to refresh the scent as needed.
Display your potpourri in a pretty bowl on a side table, tuck it into a small sachet for a drawer or closet, or give it as a heartfelt handmade gift. It is one of those small touches that makes a home feel warm, lived in, and loved.
