Like all farm-fresh flowers and greenery, eucalyptus needs a little time to hydrate and settle after its journey before it looks its absolute best. Do not be alarmed if the branches look slightly wilted or the leaves feel a little soft when you first open the box. This is normal. Give it a few hours of proper hydration and you will see it perk up and regain its natural flexibility and color.
Step-by-Step Care Instructions
1. Unpack promptly. Remove your eucalyptus from the packaging as soon as it arrives and let it breathe. Do not leave it sitting in the box.
2. Trim the stems. Cut 1 to 2 inches off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree diagonal angle to improve water uptake. For thicker, woodier stems, gently crush or lightly score the bottom inch with your scissors before placing in water. This increases the surface area for absorption and helps the branches stay hydrated and flexible longer.
3. Remove lower leaves. Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline to keep the water clean and prevent bacterial buildup.
